About My MOM Corner - First Chapter - Page 2

So they moved her. Four blocks away. Into a lock-up ward for serious dementia.

Problem was, Dad was mentally healthy, but had physical problems. Like cancer, diabetes, heart, lung, and kidney disease... He couldn't drive. His walking was limited. For a while, he made the four-block trip in his electric wheel chair. Even bought a tractor umbrella and turned it into a "surrey with a fringe on top." Made the newspaper and all. But winter was coming on. His visits would be put on hold for months. And on top of all that, they were nearly two thousand miles away from me!

My husband and I had managed to make four trips out there that year, but it was becoming increasingly difficult to find a business reason to go. And expensive. And our visits were still limited to seeing them in their respective homes.

So... we prayed about it, talked about it, and prayed some more. We discussed it with our pastor and theirs and the people at both of their facilities. Most were dead-set against such a thing... their pastor even said it would destroy our marriage... but we decided to go for it.
