Soaking in the Scriptures - Page 1

Do you want your children to love the scriptures? The language acquisition stage (up to about age seven) is wonderful time for building scripture memory and a deep seated love for the Word of God! During these years inundate your child with whatever you want him to know and believe in later years. Do you want him to know and love scripture? Introduce it now. Shakespeare? Classical music? Delight in the creation and its many aspects? Anger and bickering? Limits and "you can't." What your child hears and lives with now is what he will be comfortable with when he is older.

This is the best time in the world to develop the child's love for and familiarity with scripture because:

Repetition is fun at this age.

New sounds are delightful.

Long and hard syllables or fancy languages are no problem. They may not be able to repeat them, but they will enjoy hearing them.

Tastes and individual preferences are still developing.

This is the natural age to be developing and stretching language ability.

Children this age want to please and be like their parents.

The child is in the imprint stage of his life. What he spends time with is what will feel comfortable and familiar later.
