Soaking in the Scriptures - Page 2

He has no preconceived notion of what society will or should think.

Knowing this, how to get started? Read and recite scriptures all through the day!

After the bedtime story, read a chapter of scripture.

At the table read or recite the same chapter every day for a week.

Choose a scripture for each activity which is a normal part of the day - breakfast, lunch, bath, dressing, etc. - and recite that scripture each day at the appropriate time.

Sing the scriptures, especially the Psalms. The melody isn't as important as the doing. Just open the Bible, and think of "do, re, mi." Put the two together and go from there. Or, better yet, put your most musical child in charge of this the first few times.

Make posters or banners of scriptures and put them in conspicuous places.

Make a scripture scrapbook and read it weekly.

Write each scripture you memorize on a 3x5 card. Let the child draw a picture of the scripture on the back. Punch a hole in each card. Use a single notebook ring to keep the cards together and review them weekly.

You may not do all of these activities all the time. You may choose one or two for this year and a different one the next year. The important thing isn't the method you choose. The important thing is bathing your children daily in the word of God throughout their childhood! You wouldn't neglect washing their bodies. Wash their spirits as well!
