First Learning Hint: Raising a Son - Page 1

By Joyce Herzog Copyright 2006

Raising a son, training a boy is one of the most precious opportunities and most wonderful opportunities GOD gives. Sons grow up to be men - the leaders of tomorrow, the fathers of the next generation, the lovers and protectors of the mothers of the next generation.

Sons are delicate and fragile for their first thirteen or so years. So much depends on their making it through those years with success and strength. But in our society, we raise sons almost as if we were planning their failure, and programming them to become worthless.

Sons need to feel cherished and appreciated. They need to believe that they have worth and value and that their abilities are useful and helpful.

When a little boy is going through that stage when his whole being longs to help his mom or his dad, his offers need to be received with appreciation and joy and he needs to be allowed to really help. His small efforts, even his failures, must be handled very carefully so that the "want to" isn't destroyed before the "can do" develops.

And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge..."
